I first started 'crafting' as a youngster making cards and pictures from pressed flowers. Later in life I created greetings cards using many different techniques and had a business making bespoke Wedding Stationery. For many years, every January I would enrol in a new evening class, not as a New Year's resolution, but to stop the winter hibernation feeling taking over. Yoga, Stained Glass, Felting, Willow Basket making, Silver Jewellery, whatever appealed to me from the list that the local college produced that year. I enjoyed Stained Glass work, both Leaded and Copper Foil methods, but the Silver Jewellery held a certain charm and I continued the classes. So much so that when the tutor became ill she asked me to run her classes, which I did for several years, and then went on to develop my own classes too. In conjunction with 'Adult Education in Gloucester' I gained an Adult Education Teaching Certificate.
I took redundancy from my job in the Ministry of Defence in 2009 and bought some serious tools to develop my 'hobby' further. I took commissions from friends and family, and came home from my first local craft fair with a reasonable amount of money in the cash box. The Craft Fairs soon became overrun with jewellery in all its forms and I turned back to Stained Glass as an alternative. My work is predominantly 'Copper Foil Stained Glass' which is the method Tiffany used to make his famous lamps. It allows more detailed work to be produced, including 3D structures.
